It Was A Cold Call That Got You Into This Timeshare

Earlier this week, RCI issued this advisory:

While I applaud the fact that RCI or any timeshare related company is trying to warn consumers, I don't know why all of these warnings are so soft.

The advisory gives this advice:

1)  get the offer details
2)  be very skeptical of any upfront fees
3)  be wary

No, no and no.

It should be as follows:

1)  if a phone call, hang up
2)  if a direct mail piece, throw out
3)  if an e-mail, delete

No reputable company that I know of cold calls.  NONE.

If you don't initiate contact, then they are no good.

Since I repeat the samee thing over and over again, as do other companies and individuals who hear from consumers after they've been ripped off for thousands of dollars, let me put it in terms you, the frustated timeshare owner, can understand:

REMEMBER HOW YOU GOT INTO THIS TIMESHARE IN THE FIRST PLACE?  RIGHT, SOMEONE CONTACTED YOU FIRST.  AND NOW WHERE ARE YOU?

Is this happening with any other timeshare agencies besides RCI?

RCI and other timeshare entities always come out with advisories, In my opinion, NONE of them are worded strongly enough.

Mike Harris from Canarian legal Alliance visited me recently to talk about a no win no fee service to get my money back from Resort Properties Tenerife. He stayed for nearly 6 hours. I signed a document in the end to get rid of him but paid him nothing. He wanted up front fees on over £11,000! I think this is all a scam. Has anyone any information about these guys?

I can not emphasize this strongly enough...AVOID ANY INDIVIDUAL OR COMPANY THAT INITIATES CONTACT.

While the entire timeshare community has issued very mild warnings, which obviously are too mild (you can guess why), this is my stance and will also be the very public stance of the NTOA.
